Lilbits: Framework Laptop 12, Dasung Paperlike 13K, and Snapdragon 8s Gen 3

Frameworks is expanding its modular, repairable laptop lineup this year with the introduction of the first Framework Laptop 12. It’s the company’s first laptop with a touchscreen display and 360-degree hinge, the first with a 12.2 inch screen, and the first that’s positioned as more of a budget device than a premium system: it’s expected to come with a choice of a 12th-gen Intel Core i3 processor or a 13th-gen Core i5 chip rather than a newer, higher-performance processor. After providing a sneak peek in February, Framework says it will begin taking pre-orders for the upcoming laptop next week.

In other recent tech news from around the web, Dasung’s latest E Ink monitor is a high-res 13.3 inch display with a fast (for E Ink) refresh rate, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 processor is designed for near-flagship phones that don’t need all that a Snapdragon 8 Elite has to offer, and AAEON has introduced its smallest mini PC with an Intel Alder Lake-N processor to date.

Dasung Paperlike 13K is a 13.3 inch, 3200 x 2400px E Ink monitor with a 37 Hz refresh rate, USB-C and HDMI input, and built-in speakers and a 3.5mm audio jack. Available now in China for about $620, there’s no word on global availability yet.

The Framework Laptop 12 goes up for pre-order on April 9th. Framework’s first laptop with a convertible tablet-style design, touchscreen, and stylus support will be positioned as an entry-level laptop, but pricing hasn’t been revealed yet.

Compared with the Snapdragon 8S Gen 3, the new 8s Gen 4 chip promises a 31% CPU boost, 49% faster graphics, and 44% faster AI. But it uses Qualcomm’s older Kryo CPU cores rather than the Oryon cores found in the Snapdragon 8 Elite.

AAEON UP 710S Edge is the company’s smallest mini PC with an Intel Alder Lake-N chip, at 92 x 77 x 38mm. It has Ethernet, HDMI, USB-A and COM ports, plus an M.2 2230 E-Key and support for Windows, Ubuntu, and Yocto.
