The AOOSTAR WTR MAX is an upcoming network attached storage device with support for up to 6 hard drives and 6 SSDs, an AMD Ryzen 8040HS “Hawk Point” processor, support for up to 32GB of DDR5-5600 dual-channel memory, and four high-speed networking ports.
In other words, it’s like the big sibling of the AOOSTAR WTR Pro, a 4-bay NAS that’s currently available with a choice of AMD Ryzen 7 5825U or Intel N150 processor options. The company hasn’t announced pricing or availability details yet, but it’s begun showing off the new WTR Max at events in China.
Promotional pictures and signage for the system say that it supports up to six 3.5 inch hard drives, but pictures show what appear to be seven bays. I don’t know if one of those is cosmetic or if it serves a different purpose.
The system is also said to support up to six M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe SSDs, so maybe that seventh bay is actually where you’ll find some of those M.2 ports?
Below the drive bays you’ll find a small display on the left front side of the device, which can be used to show status information. To the right there’s a power button and a few ports including USB Type-C and Type-A ports and an SD card reader.
On the back of the device you’ll find a bunch of ports including HDMI, DisplayPort, a few more USB ports, and two 10 Gigabit SFP+ optical network ports and two 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet ports.
AOOSTAR says the WTR Max can also be used with an optional external GPU, but I can’t tell if you’re supposed to use a USB4 port for that or if the NAS has an OCuLink port for external PCIe connections.
The AOOSTAR WTR Max measures 250 x 242 x 190mm (9.84″ x 9.52″ x 7.48″).
